Seasonal doings and thinkings
Watching the seasons go by is something i love, and feel a lot of things about. Instead of seeing the year as a strict schedule a river running one way, it can sometimes be refreshing to think of it as a constantly changing sea. Or something like that. Here are some of my thoughts and what I've done this season!
Summer 2025
I’ve been very busy this summer. I often am. I’ve worked a lot, cause I’m moving out next summer and I want to have a little ground under my feet. I’ll of course have to get a job in the city once I get there, too, but it’s good to start in time. Also saving up for when I need to get a driver’s license, even if I’m going to wait with getting a car as long as I possibly can.
Other than the boring stuff, I’ve been to Norway for the first time in my life. I visited Oslo and Stavanger, both gorgeous cities. I loved the natural history museum in Oslo, that was definitely the best part of the trip to me. We traveled a lot with train. It was very surprising how many tunnels there were, and the landscapes were breathtaking. I was mostly inspired to visit Norway because of their walkable cities. And I must say they didn’t dissapoint! You could walk or cycle practically anywhere, there were trams and buses everywhere, and what made me squeal with excitement was a grassy house. Yes, it was on the outside of a shopping mall and I am not a fan of consumtion culture, but it was really cool.
I really appreciated Klimahuset at the natural history museum. I am a climate nerd so of course I did. But it really opened my eyes to what is happening and what will happen if we don’t stop this awful fenomena. It put it under a different light, to experience it first hand.
Also dinosaurs. And a lot of other critters. Everything was interesting there and I had the best sandwich I think I’ve ever eaten there. I really recommend it. Museums are wonderful.
I’ve also spent some time at our cottage. Really nice to get away from everything for a while. I really appreciate lakes and birch leaves and sunset. There’s something special about cooling off after a hot day in a car, washing off the dust of the road, feeling the water against your skin. Almost a religious experience. Really like it.
Although, this heat has been almost unbearable. Over a week of 32 degrees in the shade, no thanks. It’s not normal, and especially not normal for it to be this humid. But I’m not giving up hope. I believe we all have the powers within us to stand together in these hard times. I believe, even if that hope fades sometimes, that it will become better.
One thing I’m looking forward to is harvesting. Now in late summer and then in fall, everything gets harvested. The fields of barley and oat, blueberries, blackcurrant, apples, raspberries… The list goes on. Personally I love walking in the forest picking blueberries. It must be my favorite thing to do during the harvest season. Then we make jam and juice and fill the freezer with goods we enjoy all winter. It’s beautiful.
All in all, I’ve had a great summer. A good balance between taking it easy and doing things. Soon school is starting up again. That has of course both positive and negative sides. We will simply see where autumn takes me. Once it arrives, of course.
